Unauthorized! exists to entertain audiences with high-caliber, inventive, and memorable fully realized musical parodies of well-known movies while pushing the boundaries of the genre and raising the bar on the quality an audience should expect when attending a parody musical. We endeavor to brighten the world by giving laughter, music, and thought provoking satirical commentary to the masses, one Hollywood film parody musical at a time.

Our History

The story of Unauthorized! begins with modest resources and big dreams.

In the early morning hours of August 22nd, 2014,  when traveling home from work, musical writing duo Ryan Mercy and Christopher Barnes teamed up with producer Ronny Pascale to create a series of unauthorized musicals parodying famous Hollywood films. Not only would these shows run as full length off-broadway musicals with original book and lyrics but they would also be produced in a SINGLE MONTH!  

From this came Unauthorized!'s first show: That 80's Time Travel Movie, a musical parody based off of the classic film, Back to the Future performed at the People's Improv Theater. Since then, Unauthorized!'s scope has grown both in quantity and quality producing parodies of The Hunger Games, Ghostbusters, Steel Magnolias and more to come!

Now, with a dedicated production team and multi-talented group of performers joining Mercy and Barnes, Unauthorized! has grown into more than just an exceptional musical theater company, it is a family. A family that invites you to come and see what everyone is laughing at.
